This is because the application of certain techniques within traditional Kata is dynamic and evolving, whereas Enshin Kaikan Kata applications are static and straightforward. This doesn’t run contrary to traditional Karate by any means, but the time and focus spent on teaching the application, point of impact, and addressing the How’s and Why’s of proper technique aren’t as conducive when the focus is on Kata. Many of the techniques practiced are also then practiced in combinations and against a partner.
Following the training program set by Enshin Kaikan‘s Kancho Joko Ninomiya is his book Sabaki Method, the student begins practicing Kihon from Sanchin Dachi, Kumite Kamae, Zenkutsu Dachi, and Yoi Dachi.
